Morning Dread

A few years ago I was waking up every morning with an indescribable feeling of dread, an overwhelming emptiness in the pit of my stomach and it felt absolutely disgusting. I couldn’t work out what was going on at all.

It would ease off as the day progressed but just getting my sorry ass out of bed was the main challenge.

It became apparent that this was the start of Perimenopause and a decline in oestrogen. Generally speaking, levels of cortisol, (stress hormone) are higher in the morning to rouse you from sleep and prior to perimenopause, oestrogen helped to control this spike. So now anxiety and dread were felt instead.

Fast forward to the day the lord above brought ceremonial cacao into my reality. I have no idea how it dropped in but one day, it was there…..a write up about how it could lift mood. Not wanting to go on an antidepressant, (they typically don’t help with the affects of Oestrogen decline), I thought I’d give it a bash.

And thank goodness I did!!

I honestly felt better within a couple of days and could not wait to make my new brew in the morning. Even if I felt utter pants on waking, I knew this was the antidote for the awful way I’d been feeling.

And it never failed to pick me up, revitalise me and bring me into more peace.

If Perimenopause/Menopause is kicking your butt, there may be a point you choose to add Bio-identical hormones to your daily self care routine, as you go through these changes …. but ceremonial cacao goes a long way to lifting your mood.

Forever grateful to this absolute Godsend for getting me out of bed in the morning!!
